ANLoc Project
ICT is necessarily adapted to human languages in order to enable its use by non-specialists. For historic and economic reasons, however, certain languages dominate in this role, regardless of where ICT is used. So, when technology is used where the language and culture are different, it will exert an unintentional influence on the latter that could be negative. Localisation – the adaptation of ICT to the language and culture where it is used – allows that cultural pressure to be reduced, eliminated or even reversed.
By addressing the issue of localisation this network and its sub-projects aim to address these dimensions to indeed turn ICTs into a positive force for all of the above dimensions.
ANLoc is funded by Canada's International Development Research Centre (IDRC).

Terminology and Localisation in Africa and beyond
This year Anloc will be getting together with guests from South Africa and across the globe. With teams active in terminology development and localisation those will be the strong focus for this years event.
ANLoc 2011 Conference
ANLoc will be hosting its annual meeting in Nairobi, Kenya.
The core ANLoc project team is attending together with outside contributors from University of Nairobi, Google Africa and the Kenyan ICT board. This ANLoc meeting will also be attended by some of the participants from the Training and Localise Software sub-projects.

Several ANLoc partners are meeting in South Africa to report on the year's activities and discuss the way forward.
ANLoc at the Centre for Next Generation Localisation
Friedel Wolff, the lead of the ANLoc tools project, represented ANLoc at the CNGL (Centre for Next Generation Localisation) in Ireland. You can view his presentations on ANLoc and the tools project.
HLT Day for the National HLT Network - 2010
Dwayne and Friedel will be presenting speed papers and doing a presentation and poster sessions at the HLT day for the National Human Language Technologies Network.
